Thinking of someday becoming a doctor or health professional? Whether you’re destined to be pre-med or are interested in learning life saving wilderness medical skills, the Dominican Republic is the perfect place to study medicine and volunteer on a remarkable Caribbean adventure! Volunteer in a remote village that provides healthcare to those who cannot receive it otherwise. Become a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and put your new knowledge to use by participating in outreach programs and working alongside local health providers. Along the way discover this extraordinary country’s rich traditions, kind people, spectacular tropical jungles, cool surf breaks, beautiful rivers and lovely beaches.
Our programs are unrivaled because of Broadreach's unique blend of meaningful community service, cultural exploration and hands-on learning in truly spectacular destinations. Community service is an integral part of every Broadreach adventure, complementing and interwoven into the academic and cultural focus of the program. While making a real contribution to the communities we visit, service work provides rich opportunities for learning, personal growth, leadership development and cultural understanding, offering our students remarkable perspectives on other people and places, as well as their role in the world.
- Setting Description:
- This shape-shifting country is different for all those who visit. For you, it’s one giant medical training facility that just happens to be home to waterfalls, jungles, clear blue water, and adventure. Starting off in Santo Domingo, we’ve created a unique map of this Caribbean jewel designed to take you to locations that dovetail with, and highlight your medical training. Real world context is everything. Before the 72-hour intensive training begins though, we make our way inland, past the capital city of Santo Domingo. Our medical training starts in Las Galeras, home to cliffs dropping straight into the ocean and beautiful waterfalls. In Jarabacoa, we continue our medical training, taking a break to whitewater raft down a nearby river. Our medical training becomes useful in a small village of only a few streets. Our partner organization appreciates our help with their year-round medical projects. You''ll be amazed at all this small country has to offer.

My Broadreach trip was one I will remember forever! It was such a great opportunity to learn about medicine, meet new people, and experience a new culture. Belize was a beautiful country and I feel so lucky to have been able to earn my WFR certification
and work in a hospital. I would highly encourage anyone thinking about going on a Broadreach trip to make the leap-you won't regret it!read moreBottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
