Program Overview

Program Description:

Costa Rica will be your starting point of a lifelong love of field biology. Whether you start your journey interested in the half a million animals species of this Central American country or more intrigued by the towering trees and vibrant plants they live in, you will leave with a greater knowledge of both as well as hands on experience with data collection, reforestation and seeing the world (and yourself) in a new way.

Take in the sights atop Diamante Falls, a two tier waterfall that showcases the vast greenery and diversity you’re soon to become wonderfully familiar with. Continue the excitement down the falls as you journey to Chirripo National Park, the location of Costa Rica’s highest peak as well as cloud forests, rain forests and scientists devoted to preserving this magical area. Work with the professionals as you join them in a reforestation project to turn a cattle pasture back into the lush, native forest is once was. Then, head to the seaside and explore the other side of the country. Wander along the coast and get friendly with spider monkeys and sloths before tightening the sails and venturing off to experience what it’s like to be a marine biologist. Learn more than you ever could in a classroom as you cruise next to dolphins and snorkel above a colorful underwater world, getting a feel for how science has a real world effect on animal conservation. Return with the skills and passion for conserving rainforests and oceans, as well as the special creatures that inhabit them. But don’t forget to take in the fun as you hike, swim and make lifelong connections in lush Costa Rican landscapes

Setting Description:
Costa Rica has it all, from the typical soaring mountains and blue beaches to the wondrous cloud forests and bustling cities. Rappel down a waterfall and jump into a lush rainforest. Experience every facet of what it is like to be a field biologist in this rich and diverse country. Did you know there are over 500,000 species in Costa Rica? You are bound to find your new favorite animal or seven along Drake Bay or in the Chirripo National Park as you get hands on with reforestation and contribute to the scientific research of local wild dolphins.
