What makes São Paulo Unique? São Paulo has enough art to turn serious culture vultures into Paulistanos at heart. MASP, the Museum of Art of São Paulo, rises imposingly over the city’s main avenue, its levitating Lina Bo Bardi-designed building home to some of the finest Renaissance and 20th-century Latin American works on the continent. The Paulista Museum, perhaps the most famous history museum in the country, houses thousands of works of painting and decorative arts from the country’s independence period and beyond. Even more exciting are the festivals that have put the city on the global contemporary art map. The world’s second-oldest bi-annual festival, the São Paulo biennial draws over a million visitors to see cutting-edge works from around the globe. Pushing the envelope further still is the Festival of Electronic Art. Sponsored by Videobrasil, it brings together the world’s leading video artists and VJs for a party-like homage to the gods of digital media. If São Paulo’s businesses are rocketing toward the future, its art scene is already there!
