Program Description:
You will participate in a broad variety of extra-curricular activities with the group and your host family, from visiting historical monuments, to cooking classes, to museums, and much more. You will discover the richness of multi-ethnic cultures as they are interwoven into life in France and will reflect on what culture means from different perspectives. Throughout the program, short works of prose on aspects of daily French life will acquaint you with the essence of what it means to be French in the 21st century. This course enables you to fulfill your foreign language requirement quickly, allowing you to qualify for enrollment in more advanced courses in the fall, further study or graduate work abroad.

This summer Intensive Intermediate course will allow you to complete two semesters' work over the course of five weeks with France as your classroom. This is an excellent way to jump start your French, as you immerse yourself in the language and culture of one of the world's most breathtaking cities. Bordeaux, named a World Heritage city by UNESCO in 2007 and voted Best European Destination in 2015, in an online poll. It is known for its stunningly beautiful architecture and rich history. The Basque region, the Atlantic coastline, the Dordogne, the Pyrenees and miles of rolling vineyards are all close by. These regions will be the focus of afternoon excursions and day trips throughout your stay in Bordeaux.

In Intensive Intermediate French, you will review previously learned vocabulary and grammar while continuing to develop your ability to express yourself in oral and written form. You will spend an average of 18 hours per week in language classes and pledge to speak nothing but French while participating in the program, ensuring fast progress towards oral proficiency. An additional 10 hours per week will be spent participating in immersion-rich, content-specific cultural activities.
