Program Description:

The Overseas Student Program (OSP) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev offers students the opportunity to experience a unique study abroad program that combines academic excellence and cultural immersion. Students take their courses in English and take Hebrew language to help them acclimate into local society. All study abroad participants live in on-campus dorms with local Israeli students and have access to the vibrant student life of the BGU campus. Community engagement and volunteerism are integral parts of the campus culture and study abroad students are highly encouraged to get involved. Academic research and independent study options are also available.

The ulpan is an intensive immersive Hebrew language course that can be taken for either a four- or six-week period during the summer or winter. It incorporates a traditional curriculum of reading, writing and conversation skills with media, such as Israeli music, newspapers, movies, radio, as well as field trips. The course meets for four hours daily, Sunday-Thursday. Students are placed in an appropriate level based on results of a written exam prior to departure and an oral exam upon arrival. There are many levels of Hebrew offered in the ulpan from very basic to extremely advanced so students do not need any previous knowledge of Hebrew to attend.
