- Degree Level:
- High School
- Academic Year, Fall Semester, Spring Semester, Year Round
- Program Description:
The Netherlands is so much more than canals, tulips and windmills. Spend a semester or academic year in the Netherlands and discover a friendly new country and develop skills, experience, and maturity that equip you for success in an increasingly globalized world – all while you’re still in high school!
The Aspect Foundation High School Program includes placement in a Dutch high school for a semester or academic year, placement with a carefully-selected and screened host family, local coordinator supervision and 24-hour emergency support throughout the year, a Dutch language program before departure, health and accident insurance, and round-trip airfare.
- Setting Description:
- The Netherlands is densely populated and has two capitals: Amsterdam (the official capital) and The Hague (the seat of government.) There are 20 million bicycles in the Netherlands – nearly everyone travels to work or school by bike! The Dutch language is considered to be English’s closest linguistic relative. Though English is widely spoken and understood, by learning Dutch you’ll be able to more fully integrate into your host family, school, and community. Dutch cuisine is generally simple and straightforward, with lots of baked goods, vegetables, and fish. You’ll also see some influence from Indonesia and other former Dutch colonies reflected in the cuisine. Try a stroopwafel or some of the country’s famous cheeses! The Netherlands has produced some of the world’s most famous artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, and Rembrandt.
- Academic semester (fall only): $10,200 Academic year: $11,200 Some scholarships available.
Additional Program Information
- Students cannot be 18 years old prior to the program start date. No previous Dutch language study required, though students are strongly urged to learn as much Dutch as possible before departure.
