Program Description:

Combine community service with eco adventure on this unique Costa Rican journey. The program begins in the traditional community of Atenas, Costa Rica where you will perform community service in the mornings. Learn about Costa Rica culture and the unique needs of the Atenas community. Live with a homestay and share meals and conversation with them. When not performing community service participate in engaging cultural activities. Then embark on an eco adventure like no other. Travel to the tropical landscapes of La Fortuna. Swim in the waters of one of Costa Rica’s most famous waterfalls. Soak in hot springs with Arenal Volcano towering overhead. Travel to the Pacific coast with its tropical dry forest filled with native wildlife. Take surf lessons at Manuel Antonio beach. Go whitewater rafting down one of Costa Rica’s top rivers. This Arcos Journey has it all!

Setting Description:
Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It is known for its conservation principles and respect for its natural environment. Roulghly 28% of Costa Rica is protected by national parks, reserves, and wildlife refuges. It is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity yet is only the size of West Virginia. This tropical paradise is truly like nowhere else in the world! With a friendly populace and laid back approach to life this is a country not to be missed!

Requirements:
- Meet the age requirement of the program of choice. For most programs, the minimum age is 14 years old at the start of the program. Some programs may require a minimum age of 15. - Individuals 18 years of age may participate in the programs as long as they are in high school or have recently graduated. - Meet the physical fitness levels that some programs (Active Discovery & Wellness) have attached to them.
