Program Description:

Oaxaca is the epicenter of Mexican cooking and cuisine. Join this culinary adventure and learn how to cook some of Oaxaca’s most famous dishes. Delve into the history and traditions surrounding the ancestral flavors found in its most iconic meals. Participants will visit local markets to select fresh ingredients and learn about the different foods typical of Oaxaca culinary arts traditions. Meet with chefs and restaurant owners to gain insight into the professional side of culinary arts in Oaxaca. Travel to indigenous communities to learn more about the flavors and foods used in their dishes and about the importance of seasonal produce.

The program includes cultural activities and excursions to complement the learning experience and allow participants to engage more deeply into the life and culture of Oaxaca. Travel to Monte Alban ruins, Hierve el Agua mountain springs, and Teotitlan Village, famous for its rugs. Live with a careful selected homestay to experience home-cooked traditional Oaxacan meals.

Setting Description:
Study abroad in Oaxaca, one of Mexico’s best-preserved colonial cities. Set in a valley surrounded by mountain peaks the natural beauty of the area is unmatched. The city offers an array of culture and traditions to explore and experience. Walking the enchanting cobblestoned streets of the historic district you will be inspired by the visual magic the city has to offer.
