Program Overview

Program Description:

Bienvenue au Maroc! Study in the imperial city of Rabat, Morocco’s bustling capital in which Arab, European, indigenous Amazigh, and sub-Saharan African influences intersect to create a cultural dynamic unlike any other.

The AMIDEAST Education Abroad Regional Studies in French program offers a unique study abroad opportunity for intermediate-advanced students of the French language. The diverse array of courses are taught in both the English and French languages. Students deepen their Moroccan experience through study of the local colloquial Arabic dialect, Darija, to maximize their engagement with the host country. Homestays with local French-speaking Moroccan families grant students an intimate look at the local culture as they hone their language skills in a distinctly non-European Francophone environment. Finally, organized excursions span exciting locations from the ancient medina of Fez to the quiet village of Zawyat Ahansal in the Atlas Mountains.

Setting Description:
Rabat is one of Morocco's "imperial cities," as well as its political capital. It is home to the leading educational institutions in the country and offers students opportunities to move from the shops and cafes of the modern city to the narrow streets and exciting markets of the old medina in a few minutes' walk. Classes take place at the AMIDEAST Center in the bustling Agdal area of the city close to the buildings of AMIDEAST’s partner, the College of Letters and Humanities of Mohammed V University – Agdal. Courses are taught by French-speaking Moroccan faculty members from the University and other universities in Rabat and neighboring cities.
