Program Description:

Students enrolled in AMIDEAST’s Education Abroad Program in Egypt will have opportunities to study fascinating topics on the Middle East in a program based at the AMIDEAST Center in Cairo, Egypt. AMIDEAST Education Abroad Program courses in Cairo are taught by a select group of Egyptian professors from a variety of institutions in and around Cairo. These lecturers possess a strong instructional experience in English-speaking environments. All faculty members have received post-graduate degrees from North American or European universities, or have spent considerable time at English-medium institutions as students, faculty members, visiting faculty or visiting researchers.

Students in the AMIDEAST Education Abroad Program in Amman carry a 14 to 17 credit hour course load per semester. All students enroll in Arabic and two to three other courses from offerings in Middle East and North African studies in a variety of disciplines taught in English. AMIDEAST prioritizes the high quality instruction of both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian colloquial, to beginning through advanced speakers of Arabic. In addition to academic coursework, AMIDEAST students benefit from an on-site orientation, opportunity to live with an Egyptian family, structured ways to meet local students, and organized excursions to exciting locations around Egypt.

With AMIDEAST's more than 60-year presence in the Middle East and North Africa, AMIDEAST Education Abroad Programs are able to draw on AMIDEAST's long term experience in the region, strong local connections, and deep understanding of the intercultural, health, safety, and security issues inherent to study abroad in the Arab world.

Setting Description:
Cairo, capital of Egypt, is an ancient city facing distinct modern challenges, thus making it an exciting place to live and study. Built upon the Nile, Cairo is a bustling metropolis with thousands of years of cultural, political, and religious significance. Students live with Egyptian host families during their time in Egypt.
