This Service Learning Program will give you an in-depth look at South African culture, enhance your level of intercultural understanding, and increase your awareness of global issues. As part of this program, you will take 2 courses – Introduction to South Africa’s Political History, and Learning, Sustainability and Community Engagement – at the University of Stellenbosch.

Live in a modern university residence hall at the heart of campus life where you’ll share a double room with another AIFS student. Breakfast is included daily in your residence hall and welcome and farewell meals are also included.

Cultural and social activities include wine or beer craft tastings, hiking, and visits to Cape Town and Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, and Robben Island.

An optional, 6-day Garden Route excursion is also available to AIFS students.

Setting Description:
Spectacular mountain ranges surround Stellenbosch, the university town in the wine lands of the Western Cape. The elegant Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian houses that grace the oak tree-lined streets reflect the history of one of South Africa’s oldest towns. You’ll find interesting museums, open-air coffee shops, bistros and a thriving art scene; go further afield and you can hike through vineyards, orchards and mountain ranges. Study here and become part of a vibrant academic community with a tranquil and laid-back atmosphere.
