Program Overview
- Program Description:
Spend the summer in the captivating city of Stellenbosch, South Africa with AIFS! You’ll earn up to 6 credits through the General Elective Program at Stellenbosch University. Courses are taught in English.
Live in the modern and well-appointed university residence hall at the heart of campus life where you’ll share a double room with another AIFS student. You will receive breakfast daily in your residence hall, as well as welcome and farewell meals hosted by the University.
Cultural and social activities include:
- Wine or beer craft tastings
- Hiking
- Visits to Cape Town and Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope and Robben Island
- 3-day West Coast excursion.
An optional, 6-day Garden Route excursion is also available to AIFS students.
- Setting Description:
- Spectacular mountain ranges surround Stellenbosch, the university town in the wine lands of the Western Cape. The elegant Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian houses that grace the oak tree-lined streets reflect the history of one of South Africa’s oldest towns. You’ll find interesting museums, open-air coffee shops, bistros and a thriving art scene; go further afield and you can hike through vineyards, orchards and mountain ranges. Study here and become part of a vibrant academic community with a tranquil and laid-back atmosphere.
- Cost:
- AIFS is a premier provider of study abroad programs. Program fees cover tuition and housing, and over 50% of our study abroad participants receive financial support from AIFS in the form of scholarships or grants. A meal plan, tours and excursions, insurance, and 24-hour emergency service are also included. Coordinated AIFS Flight Packages with major airlines are also available.

- Requirements:
- Minimum 2.5 GPA for General Elective Program - Open to college freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Minimum 2.8 GPA for all other programs - Open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors. Must be 18 years or older to apply.
