Program Description:

Spend your January term studying abroad in Stellenbosch, South Africa with AIFS! Earn 3 credits studying either photography or South African wine and winemaking. Courses are taught in English. Live in Stellenbosch University residences on a self-catering basis. Photography students will stay in student lodges while traveling with breakfast and dinner included.

Cultural and social activities are included for both programs, such as guided sightseeing tours, visits to Robben Island and the prison museum, day trip to the Cape of Good Hope, and a trip up Table Mountain by cable car. Photography students will also take an unforgettable 6-day tour along the Garden Route. Winemaking students will enjoy visits to a variety of wineries, vineyards, and wine farms in and around Stellenbosch and the beautiful town of Franschhoek. 

Setting Description:
Spectacular mountain ranges surround Stellenbosch, the university town in the wine lands of the Western Cape. The elegant Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian houses that grace the oak tree-lined streets reflect the history of one of South Africa’s oldest towns. You’ll find interesting museums, open-air coffee shops, bistros and a thriving art scene; go further afield and you can hike through vineyards, orchards and mountain ranges. Study here and become part of a vibrant academic community with a tranquil and laid-back atmosphere.
AIFS is a premier provider of study abroad programs. Program fees cover tuition and housing, and over 50% of our study abroad participants receive financial support from AIFS in the form of scholarships or grants. A meal plan, tours and excursions, insurance, and 24-hour emergency service are also included. Coordinated AIFS Flight Packages with major airlines are also available.

Open to college sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Minimum 2.7 GPA required.
