Program Overview

Program Description:

Spend the summer in the cosmopolitan and culturally rich city of St. Petersburg with AIFS. You’ll earn up to 7 credits at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Courses are taught in English or Russian with no previous Russian language study required.

Immerse yourself in Russian culture and language in one of a limited number of homestays, or stay at a comfortable residence hall with other Russian and international students. During the first week, all students live in the residence hall while getting accustomed to the program. A meal allowance is included to subsidize the cost of meals and groceries for all students. Meals are included for the first three days of the program and a farewell meal.

Cultural and social activities are organized every week and can include museum visits, theater performances, brewery tours, boat trips, and a Siege of Leningrad tour. A 3-day visit to Moscow is included in the program along with day trips to Catherine Palace at Pushkin, Peterhof and Novgorod.

A 2-night tour of London, England on route to Russia and overnight stopover on return to the U.S. are included for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package.

Setting Description:
St. Petersburg is known as both Russia’s “window to the West,” and the “Venice of the North,” for its open attitude and stunning canals, respectively. The city certainly has a European flair with its boulevards, canals and baroque architecture, yet offers students an authentic Russian experience.
