Program Overview

Program Description:

Spend the summer in the stunning and pristine Galápagos Islands with AIFS! You’ll earn 3 credits taking “Ecosystems and Biodiversity in the Galápagos” through Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFG). Courses are taught in English.

Live in a homestay with a local family, where daily breakfast and dinner will be provided. Hotel accommodation is provided for the Quito and Island-hopping section of the program.

You’ll enjoy cultural activities such as guided tours and museum visits in Quito, and field trips while in the Galápagos to Frigate Bird Hill, El Junco Lake, La Galapaguera – home to the famous giant tortoises, La Loberia Beach to see sea lions, and to Kicker Rock. A day trip to Otavalo and a 3-day excursion to Floreana and Santa Cruz Islands are included in the program fee.

Setting Description:
The Galápagos Islands, located about 600 miles west of continental Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, symbolize a defining moment in the history of life on Earth and the way we see the world and ourselves. This program offers students a unique and unparalleled opportunity to experience and discover the diverse ecology of the archipelago that so enthralled Darwin and to learn about the vital conservation work being done to protect these extraordinary islands and the unique species they are home to.
Cost:
AIFS is a premier provider of study abroad programs. Program fees cover tuition and housing, and over 50% of our study abroad participants receive financial support from AIFS in the form of scholarships or grants. A meal plan, tours and excursions, insurance, and 24-hour emergency service are also included. Coordinated AIFS Flight Packages with major airlines are also available.

Requirements:
Open to high school graduates and college freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Minimum 2.5 GPA required. Must be 18 years or older to apply.
