Program Description:

Spend the summer in the stunning and pristine Galápagos Islands with AIFS and earn 3 credits. Live in comfortable hotels while in Quito and traveling to different islands in the Galápagos, and a homestay while on San Cristóbal Island. Enjoy cultural activities such as guided tours and museum visits in Quito, and field trips in Galápagos to Frigate Bird Hill, El Junco Lake, Galapaguera – home to the famous giant tortoises, La Loberia Beach to see the sea lions, Kicker Rock and Puerto Chino to see blue-footed boobies.

The Galápagos program offers 3 credits studying an environmental science course. Based at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) Extension campus on the island of San Cristóbal and taught by USFQ faculty, you will study the Galápagos’ major ecosystems and learn about them first-hand on academic field excursions which take you into the designated visitor sites to discover species of flora and fauna that exist nowhere else on earth.

Setting Description:
The Galápagos Islands, located about 600 miles west of continental Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, symbolize a defining moment in the history of life on Earth and the way we see the world and ourselves. This program offers students a unique and unparalleled opportunity to experience and discover the diverse ecology of the archipelago that so enthralled Darwin and to learn about the vital conservation work being done to protect these extraordinary islands and the unique species they are home to.
AIFS is a premier provider of study abroad programs. Program fees cover tuition and housing, with $800,000 in scholarship and grant funding available each year. A meal plan, tours and excursions, insurance and 24-hour emergency service are also included. Coordinated AIFS Flight Packages with major airlines are also available.
