Known as the "the land of smiles," Thailand is the gateway of Southeast Asia. This country draws more visitors than any other country in Southeast Asia thanks to breathtaking natural beauty, inspiring temples, renowned hospitality, robust cuisine, and ruins of fascinating ancient kingdoms... In Thailand, many of the schools offer sports and other recreational clubs within school. Along with these extra curricular activities there are festivals which take place locally and nationally. The grading system in Thailand is much different compared to the typical letter grading system used here in the U.S. Take a look at how you will be graded when attending school in Thailand. Colleges recommend high school study abroad experiences - as these programs provide the opportunity to develop confidence and self-reliance before pursuing higher education. In addition, after exploring the world you may have a clearer vision of what you'd like to study in college. As a result, you may spend less time switching majors, which means you'll save time and money. An exchange program also boosts college applications and gives you an immediate advantage when applying for scholarships.

Plus, the language skills you develop on an AFS program might exempt you from required language courses, thus enabling you to finish college sooner. Some students have received as much as 18 hours language credit-almost enough to provide a minor in language and a huge financial savings when you figure the cost of credits.
Setting Description:
From the mountains of Mae Hong Son to the verdant limestone islands of the Andaman Sea, from the pulse-pounding dance clubs of Bangkok to tranquil villages along the Mekong River, Thailand has something for everyone. Buddhism, which places a high value on hospitality and kindness, is the dominant religion, and you are likely to see orange-robed monks and statues of the Buddha throughout the country. You'll have an opportunity to see different parts of the country as extended Thai families enjoy visiting each other. And while you'll learn Thai, English is a required subject in schools, so there will be plenty of people you can talk with immediately. Study abroad in Thailand and discover an exotic and exciting culture of age-old traditions.
