Come to the country that celebrates life everyday! From Carnaval, one of the world's most famous celebrations, to the hospitable nature of the Brazilian people, to the ever-present futbol (soccer) culture, Brazil never fails to excite all the senses... All of Brazil's extra curricular are based outside of school. When looking for something to do in your free time, you'd typically find it outside of school. Brazil's grading system is slightly different than the typical letter grading system you are used to here in the U.S. take a look below for how they grade their students. Outstanding: 9-10 Good: 7-8 Average: 5-7 Poor: 0-5 Failing: -5

Colleges recommend high school study abroad experiences - as these programs provide the opportunity to develop confidence and self-reliance before pursuing higher education. In addition, after exploring the world you may have a clearer vision of what you'd like to study in college. As a result, you may spend less time switching majors, which means you'll save time and money. An exchange program also boosts college applications and gives you an immediate advantage when applying for scholarships.

Plus, the language skills you develop on an AFS program might exempt you from required language courses, thus enabling you to finish college sooner. Some students have received as much as 18 hours language credit-almost enough to provide a minor in language and a huge financial savings when you figure the cost of credits.
Setting Description:
Brazil is the largest, most populous, and the only Portuguese-speaking country in Latin America. It is a land of diversity, present in its Amazon rainforest, beaches, cities, and the people, who include native Indians and people of Portuguese, European, and African ancestries. You'll easily make friends, since Brazilians love to share their culture and learn about others. You will be invited to join in soccer matches, traditional dances, festivals, street parades, guitar gatherings, barbecues, parties at the beach, and much more. If you're up for a challenge, try your hand at capoeira, the 400-year-old Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music, dance, and ritual. Family life is important here, so don't be surprised if many extended family members want to get to know you during your stay.
