Jyni’s Study Abroad Experience in Milan, Italy

Studying abroad is more than attending classes in another country. It’s an opportunity to experience a new culture, explore a different environment, and discover what you’re capable of outside your comfort zone.

Through StudyAbroad.com, Jyni had the opportunity to take her studies to Milan, Italy, where she attended Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Her experience combined academics with independent travel, giving her the chance to learn while experiencing everyday life in a new country.

Preparing to travel outside the country for the first time can feel overwhelming, but Jyni felt supported throughout the process. She particularly appreciated her StudyAbroad.com advisor, describing her as “so attentive and nice” and saying that she “made me feel as comfortable as possible with going out of the country.”

With that support, Jyni was ready to begin her study abroad experience in Milan.

Why Study Abroad in Milan?

For Jyni, studying abroad in Milan offered the opportunity to combine her education with the experience of living in another country.

While studying at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, she gained a deeper understanding of physical and mental health, one of the areas she hoped to explore during her experience.

“I got to know a bit more behind the physical and mental health,” Jyni shared.

But her learning experience extended beyond the classroom. Being in Milan also allowed her to experience life in Italy and travel abroad on her own.

“Just the experience for traveling abroad alone is amazing but adding studying to the mix definitely adds a couple points,” she said.

That combination of travel and education is one of the unique benefits of studying abroad. Rather than simply visiting a destination, students have the opportunity to experience it as part of their everyday lives—while continuing their academic journey at the same time.

Of course, adjusting to a new country can come with challenges. Jyni experienced some homesickness during her time abroad, but she still looks back on her experience positively.

“Despite my unwarranted homesickness, I had a great time,” she reflected.

Her experience shows that studying abroad doesn’t have to be completely seamless to be meaningful. Feeling homesick can be part of adjusting to life away from home, while the new experiences and opportunities can make the journey worthwhile.

A Study Abroad Experience to Remember

Jyni’s time in Milan gave her the chance to pursue her academic interests, experience life in Italy, and discover what it was like to travel independently.

When asked whether she would recommend StudyAbroad.com to a friend or colleague, Jyni said yes, highlighting the experience of traveling abroad alone and the added value of studying along the way.

For students preparing for their own first international experience, Jyni also has a simple practical reminder: make sure you have access to mobile data. She recommends getting an eSIM or an international data plan before traveling, which can make it easier to navigate a new city, communicate with others, and stay connected while abroad.

Ultimately, Jyni’s study abroad experience in Milan was about more than a destination. It was an opportunity to learn, explore, and step outside her comfort zone while experiencing a new country as a student.

For anyone considering studying abroad in Italy, Jyni’s story is a reminder that the experience can offer much more than academic learning. It can be a chance to travel independently, discover new perspectives, and create memories that stay with you long after you return home.
