Study in England at
Liverpool Hope University
College
History of Liverpool Hope
Liverpool Hope, affiliated with the University of Liverpool,
is the result of the union of three sectarian colleges,
Christ's and Notre Dame's extensive modern campuses
and St. Katherine's old buildings and traditions merged
into a new institution in 1980 and are now housed together in
Childwall. Architecturally, the units are quite distinct and
each one has excellent facilities. Together they provide a
spacious and attractive campus with gardens, playing fields,
parklands and trees.
The City of Liverpool
Liverpool is a warm welcoming and friendly city with a rich
cultural life and a fascinating history. From its beginning
as a tiny fishing village in the 12th century, Liverpool
first grew into prominence in the 18th century as a result of
the sugar, spice and tobacco trade with the Americas. The
city is now the largest export port in England. It boasts
numerous theatres, pubs, museums and galleries, concerts,
discos and sports events of every kind. Football is played at
Anfield and Goodison Park. In the city are a tudor manor
house, Europe's oldest Chinese community, the renovated
harbor area, both old and modern industry and cathedrals. In
North Wales, there is abundant countryside for climbing,
caving and walking.
Educational Programs and Facilities
The merging of the facilities has proved advantageous to
students; the result is the pooling of resources such as
libraries, audio visual materials and computer facilities.
Courses are offered in American Studies, Art, Biology,
Environmental Studies, Geography, History, Mathematics,
Sociology, Psychology, Music, Physical Education, Victorian
Studies, as well as a number of other disciplines. Facilities
at the new college include chapels, spacious reading rooms,
extensive libraries, student unions and very good residential
accommodations. There is a bookstore on campus as well as a
bank, and medical services are available.
