The University of Wollongong

The University of Wollongong

The University of Wollongong (pronounced Wool-'n-gong) is close to the city but in a beautifully landscaped setting, provides an ideal atmosphere for study and for leisure. the university dates from 1951 and has an enrollment of approximately 12,000 students. It takes its name from the city of Wollongong (an aboriginal word meaning "sound of the waves") which is Australia's seventh largest city and one of the most cosmopolitan in the country. As a result, diverse tastes in food, clothing and cultural mores are found. Shops, theatres, cinemas, art galleries and the performing arts center are all located close to the university.

The Campus

The University is located 50 miles south of Sydney, the site for the 2000 Olympics just an hour away by train, car or bus, and is situated on 232 acres on the lower slopes of a range of mountains covered with rainforests. It is a very attractive campus with trees, ponds and a waterfall. Some of Australia's finest swimming beaches are located close to the campus. In sum, Wollongong is a modern, innovative institution providing a center of international distinction for study abroad students.
