Study in Australia at
Bond
University
Bond University
Australia's first and most successful private university,
is a non-profit, coeducational university located on Southeast
Queensland's Gold Coast, a one hour drive from Brisbane.
Bond emphasizes personalized instruction by committed, highly
qualified scholars, an international students body and
innovative courses and teaching methods. It is housed on a
beautiful stretch of land near the coast.
The Campus
Bond University's campus has been planned to highlight its
natural environment and location between the picturesque
mountains of a rich hinterland and some of Australia's
finest surfing beaches. The campus was designed by an
Australian master planner, Daryl Jackson, whose purpose was to
build a campus of lasting beauty. The main entrance to the
campus is framed by a bell tower and a clock tower and opens
into a large piazza. The campus includes a 2300 meter Olympic
rowing course within lakes and waterways which link with the
extensive canal system of the Gold Coast. The campus also
includes tennis courts, a soccer field and football oval. Also
located on campus is a University center which includes a
variety of facilities and lecture theatres.
Educational Program and Facilities
Academic programs consist of: Communications, Asian Studies,
Australian Studies, International Studies, Journalism,
International Business and Finance, Law, Humanities, Social
Sciences, Computer Science and Japanese. Students may take any
undergraduate course offered at Bond University, subject to
prerequisite. Four courses worth four credits each (or 16
credits per semester) are earned during one of the fourteen
week terms, or students may choose to take three courses (12
credits). Classes are small at Bond and students receive a
great deal of individual attention. The lectures know each
student by name and are very accessible. The current
student/faculty ratio is 10:1 and there are 2.4 students per
computer terminal.
Program Periods
Unlike other Australian Universities, Bond has a three
semester academic year which is synchronized with those of
American Universities. Each semester is fourteen weeks. An
orientation program called "Bond Week" takes place at
the beginning of each semester. Semester 1 begins in mid
January and ends in late April; semester 2 begins in early May
and ends in late August; semester 3 begins in early September
and ends in mid December.
Accommodation and Meals
There are three different types of residences on campus; the
Student Residence in the Hotel Tower, the Dormitory Residence
and the Twin/Triple Residence. Most rooms are single
occupancy, furnished study bedrooms. Linens are supplied and
the rooms are serviced weekly. Air conditioned rooms are
available at a slightly higher cost. Fourteen meals per week
are included in the cost. All meals are taken in the student
Brasserie and students may choose to have breakfast &
lunch; breakfast & dinner or lunch & dinner.

forms of financial aid. Non-SUNY students should check with
their home campus financial aid office. Students must pay
program fees in full before departure. Fees for lodging are
paid in Australia directly to the university. Please call
or write for a current fee schedule. Out of state tuition
is $4,150 per semester.

academic standing, recommendations and the quality of the
