HTL D 155 IA, International Hospitality
New Zealand and Australia - 3 credits

Costs

Trip Includes: round trip airfare from New York to New Zealand, flight from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia, return flight from Sydney to New York, 4 star hotel accommodations in New Zealand and Australia with a buffet breakfast daily, farewell dinner and lunch at Hunter Valley Vineyard, Australian visa fee, culinary school, travel accommodations, escorted excursions as per itinerary, airline tax, travel and luggage insurance. Please be aware gratuities are not included.

Travel costs will be $4,399 (based on a minimum of 14 students, double occupancy). Single occupancy available, rate upon request. Price will be slightly higher if there is lower enrollment. Final number of approved students will determine final price, odd numbers may cause triple occupancy. Final payment can be made to travel agent by credit card, please inquire.

Tuition

In addition, students will be enrolled in HTL 155. Tuition and fees are additional, as follows:

    NY State Residents: $432.00
    Special Course Fee: $25.00
    Extra Curricular Fee: $28.00
    Application Fee: (if not a NCC student) $30.00

    Out of State residents: $864.00

Penalty fees will be incurred due to cancellation.

*Costs may change due to currency fluctuation.

All fees are due prior to departure.

Registration deadline is October 11, 2007. Applications received after this date will be wait listed.

Orientation

Prior to departure, there will be an introductory program, which covers an overview of the trip, what to expect, what to bring, preparation materials, study requirements and a question and answer period.

Arrive in Auckland, New Zealand

Coach tour through the 'City of Sails'. Pass the waterfront and enjoy the panoramic views from Mount Eden. You will visit the War Memorial Museum. After visiting the museum you will then drive along the beautiful Tamaki Drive, completing your city tour through the elegant suburb of Parnell.

Gourmet Wine Tour

Private Coach Charter/Tour, travel out of the city into farmland and countryside. Today you will visit three premium wineries, Nobilos Winery, West Brook winery & Soljans Estate. At each winery you will have a guided tasting of their best wines with lectures. Journey to the scenic, wild West Coast to enjoy breath-taking panoramic views of Muriwai 'Black Sand' surf beach, and blue Tasman Sea. Café lunch included.

Fly from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia

Upon arrive check-in hotel which is centrally located in the heart of Sydney's central business district, within easy walking distance of major attractions. Stop at Sydney Harbor National Park for a picnic lunch! Visit the landmarks of Sydney including the Rocks area, Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, the exclusive harbor side suburbs of Vaucluse, Double Bay and Rose Bay, onto Sydney Heads and the famous Bondi Beach.

Hunter Valley Resort offers the total Wine Experience. Enjoy a wine tasting paired with your lunch. Tour to the Blue Mountains. Visit to a wildlife park to meet some of those very famous Australian's such as the Koala, Kangaroo and Wombat. Visit the historic township of Katoomba. Lunch is included in today's tour.

Eligibility

This is a three credit course open to students who have completed 15+ credits, have completed all remedial courses prior to application and have a minimum 2.5+ GPA. Students need not be declared science majors. Prospective students must be interviewed by faculty before being admitted to the class.

Notice

This field trip is under the supervision of NCC faculty. Students must comply with all rules and regulations of NCC, particularly the Student Code of Conduct. The rules of the State University of New York are also in effect. Students who do not comply with the Student Code of Conduct will be sent home at their expense.

Remedial and support services available on a campus can not be provided.

Any special health issues must be indicated to the Instructors at interview.

Requirements

Valid passport, Visa is required for US citizens, readings, folders and supplies.

* Individuals who are not US citizens or who do not possess a US passport should notify faculty immediately.

* Cost for passport is not included.

Participants must attend all scheduled lectures and pre-departure meetings.

In addition, a research paper on a related topic specific to international hospitality will be due prior to departure. A daily journal incorporating specific summaries on lectures and site visitations will be collected upon return.

Grades will be awarded based upon the above and any additional requirements listed in the course outline.
