Summer Studies in London

Middlesex is a large dynamic university based in north London. Although its academic heritage can be traced back to the late nineteenth century origins of its founding colleges, Middlesex is best known today for its innovative, forward thinking approach to education and learning. More than 25,000 students currently study at Middlesex's six campuses including more than 5,000 overseas students from 100 countries and 4,500 postgraduates. More international students choose Middlesex than any other UK university.

Middlesex University's Summer School is the leading integrated summer programme for university-level study in the UK. Now in its tenth year, Summer School 2003 will again see more than 100 courses on offer. Subjects are taken from across the university's broad curriculum and range from Spanish; History of London from 1850 or Black London to International Political Theory and Consumer Law. Courses are available at all levels, from introductory to advanced and vary in duration from a few days to five weeks.
The Summer School offers a unique opportunity to study with students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Current Middlesex and other university students mix with international students and those attending to study for interest, fun or to further an area of previous study. For students from other institutions, both in the UK and overseas, the Summer School offers a chance to gain university credit to put towards their main degree programme. Students can choose to take most courses for university credit, if wished, though some are non-credit bearing. Non-credit courses offer the opportunity to develop skills or interests and are mostly up to one week in duration. Students receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
Classes are small, interactive and informal, allowing lecturers to better meet individual student needs. The majority of the courses are taught over five weeks, although some are taught more intensively over a shorter period of time.
Whatever the reason for joining the Summer School, the resulting friendly mix of students provides everyone with a rewarding and exciting experience. It is an opportunity to build relationships and exchange ideas with interesting people you may not usually have the opportunity to meet. The beautiful Trent Park campus is set in 950 acres of north London parkland, only about half an hour's tube journey to central London from our local underground station - Oakwood. The campus offers an outdoor swimming pool, sports facilities, places to eat and a bar. Single-study bedrooms with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities are available on site.

The Summer Package
The Summer School also offers a summer package to students attending the full six weeks. This includes a twenty-credit module, on-campus accommodation, two meals per day (Monday to Friday only), free access to sports classes and facilities (including off-peak use of the outdoor swimming pool), plus an extensive schedule of social and cultural events. This feature allows students to balance their learning with social activities.
