Overview The goals of the program are to enhance students' knowledge of India from interdisciplinary perspectives. The orientations in Delhi and Hyderabad, combined with specialized courses, enable participants to grasp the historic and cultural density of the largest democracy in the world. Setting The University of Hyderabad, over twenty-five years old, was the first federally funded university to be established in the southern part of India. The university has over 200 faculty and 2,100 full-time students and eight schools: chemistry; life sciences; mathematics and computer and information sciences; physics; humanities; social sciences; management studies; performing arts, fine arts, and communication. The campus is located approximately 30-45 minutes from the downtown area by public transportation affording students a more tranquil environment outside of the city center to learn about student life in Andhra Pradesh.
Value The 2006 - 07 CIEE fees include an optional airport meet and greet, tuition, housing, meals, orientation, airfare from Delhi to Hyderabad at the start of the program, cultural activities, local excursions and field trips, pre-departure advising, and insurance. College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) The program is designed for students interested in participating in an Indian cultural experience. It focuses on providing students opportunities to take courses across a broad spectrum covering areas such as Indian art, history, culture and language. Internships are also available.
Overview Students may choose to study Introduction to Indian History, Introduction to Religions of India, Foreign Language (Indian Languages Hindi/Sanskrit/Tamil/Kannada), International Business, Indian Literature and Hindu Mythology.
Setting The program is located near Bangalore, India, which is known as heart of the Indian "Silicon Valley". Bangalore is the 5th largest city in India, and certainly the most pleasant in terms of weather and climate. Students will have the option to be placed in brand new dorms on campus or to be placed in homestays which typically include a single bedroom with breakfast.

International Honors Program A small group of students and faculty will travel to 3 countries to explore the consequences of genetic, environmental and social circumstances on health. Study in traditional settings is complemented by on-site comparisons of health systems and issues.
Overview The courses create a foundation for understanding culture and health; the health impacts of globalization; comparative health systems, governance and policy-making; public health problems and strategies; and field-based research methods.

Institute for Shipboard Education - Semester at Sea Administered by the nonprofit Institute for Shipboard Education, Semester at Sea® is a program that takes approximately 600 students--from colleges and universities across the United States and abroad--around the world each fall, spring and summer semester. The University of Virginia is the program's academic sponsor.
Overview Since 1963, over 45,000 students have studied and traveled to 60 countries around the world during fall and spring semesters through this program. A regional 65-day summer program also takes students to countries in the Pacific Rim, Latin America or Europe and the Mediterranean.
Setting Semester at Sea offers two voyages each year that circumnavigate the earth, and one that is more regional in focus. The fall terms typically begin in Ensenada, Mexico, and end in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, while the winter/spring terms generally begin in Nassau, Bahamas, and end in San Diego, California or Seattle, Washington. State University of New York (SUNY) The State University of New York (SUNY) currently offers more than 400 overseas study programs in more than 50 countries: in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Programs range from 2-3 week intensive courses to a semester or academic year abroad. Courses are available in more than 100 subjects, ranging alphabetically from aboriginal studies and aerospace engineering to western philosophy and women's studies. While many programs focus on language learning and are conducted in the language of the host country, many others are conducted wholly or partly in English.
Overview The State University of New York overseas study programs are, with some exceptions, open to all SUNY and non-SUNY students, with eligibility ranging from first year to graduate level. For many undergraduates, the best time to study abroad has traditionally been during the junior year; however, well-prepared sophomores, and occasionally freshmen, are eligible for some programs. Setting Study abroad can be one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences in a college student's career. Getting to know another culture, living in a new environment, learning a new language, meeting people: all these add up to a kind of education different from what can be acquired on campus. Students learn well and mature quickly when studying in a different culture. William Fulbright, author of the Fulbright exchange program, "perhaps the greatest power of educational exchange is the power to convert nations into peoples and to translate ideologies into human aspirations".Value Total expenses are competitive with other highly-rated study abroad programs in public and private universities across the country. Program costs are usually only slightly higher than on-campus costs of tuition, room and board (exclusive of international air fare) and in some countries expenses are actually less than they would be on campus. Study abroad students pay SUNY tuition (in-state or out-of-state, depending upon New York State residency) plus costs, which vary from program to program. Matriculated students at a State University of New York campus register on their home campus for programs offered at any other campus. They are thus able to maintain residency and eligibility for financial aid. Overview This program combines an innovative urban studies curriculum with fieldwork involving public agencies, planners, elected officials, public/private partnerships, NGOs and grassroots groups. Students will learn how "to read a city" with leadership from faculty and from their own on-site observations.
Setting On this multi-site comparative program students and faculty will travel together to 3 countries and numerous cities while engaged in an interdisciplinary and comparative study of various urban social, political, economic and environmental issues.

Pacific Village Institute PVI designs and runs programs that fall into one of three general categories: Semester Programs, Collaborative School Programs, and Educator Forums. A 17-week semester program consists of classes, tours, homestay, and independent research; SITA students experience intensive, in-depth contact with South India's people and cultures, and applicants should be flexible, self-motivated, responsible, socially concerned, and show a serious interest in issues related to developing countries such as India.
Overview After an orientation at the seaside town of Mamallapuram, classes in Madurai are scheduled from August to mid-October, ranging from Hindu Art and Mythology, to Indian Literature, to Socio-Political and Caste issues. Course exams are followed by a two-week tour of South India, and the final month of the program is reserved for field research and Independent Study projects.
