Northern Arizona University The Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, founded in 1966, was created to provide the higher-order thinking skills, technical preparation, research training, social and environmental awareness, and educational leadership essential to the holistic growth of Guatemala.
Overview Anthropology, Biology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Forestry, and Parks and Recreation. All courses are taught in Spanish. Information on courses may be obtained from the NAU International Office. Note: This is not a language immersion program. Spanish language courses are not available.
Setting The Universidad del Valle de Guatemala is located in the capital city of Guatemala, Guatemala City. UVG is situated on the outskirts of the city, in a quiet neighborhood. The city center can be reached in approximately 20 minutes by city bus.
Value Its origins are with the American School of Guatemala, which has functioned as a laboratory school in Guatemala since 1948. Today, the Universidad provides academic programs.

Overview Participants in the Arizona in Guatemala at CIRMA program will have the full use of CIRMA's unique library and historical and photographic archives: (1) The Central American Library (2) The Guatemalan Historical Archive (3) The Guatemalan Photography Archive.
Setting The colonial city of Antigua is nowadays one of the most popular sites in Central America. Founded in 1543, it was the seat of Spanish colonial government for the Viceroyalty of Guatemala, which included Chiapas, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
Value CIRMA arranges for students to stay with host families in Antigua. This provides students with maximum exposure to Guatemalan culture, including total immersion in the Spanish language. There is limited housing available for those students wishing to have a private bathroom.
