International Honors Program A small group of students and faculty will travel to 5 countries to explore issues related to globalization. Study in traditional settings is complemented by on-site comparisons of policy and social movements. Students will earn 16 credits in each of 2 semesters for a total of 32 credit hours.

Overview This program offers students an interdisiplinary curriculum that examines the impact of globalization on the Earth and its inhabitants in a variety of social, cultural, political, economic, and ecological settings.

Setting The students will spend between 5 and 8 weeks in each of the 5 countries that are to be visited. The students will travel extensively within each country and will be hosted with families or villages as frequently as possible to ensure exposure to each country's peoples and cultures.

SIT Study Abroad Few natural environments compare to the vast wilderness expanses of Tanzania. Serengeti National Park is the site of the largest wildlife migration on earth. Tanzania is home to tropical, temperate and alpine forests. Ngorongoro Crater, a 12-mile-wide extinct volcano and one of the seven wonders of the natural world, is nature s perfect zoological garden. Within these disparate ecosystems, issues of population growth, land usage, and tourism development are in tense juxtaposition with wildlife conservation efforts.

Swahili language study and a rural stay with the Maasai provide further insight into the delicate balance between socioeconomic goals and ecological concerns.

Associated Colleges of the Midwest The Studies in Human Evolution and Ecology Program (fall semester) offers undergraduates the rare opportunity to observe and conduct field work in some the world's greatest paleoanthropological and ecological sites. On the Nation Building and Development in Tanzania Program (spring semester) students study Tanzanian culture, language, politics, and social structure.

Overview Students participate in an intensive Swahili language course taught by University of Dar es Salaam professors for the first 3-4 weeks of either program. Students attend all courses as a group, conduct an independent research project, and participate in local field trips organized by the program staff.

Setting Both program sites are located at the University in the city of Dar es Salaam, the nation's capitol, largest city, and center of Tanzania's economic and political life. Participants in the Studies in Human Evolution and Ecology programs live in tent camps during the field portion (weeks 10-15), and students on both programs live with a Tanzanian host family in Dar es Salaam.

Seton Hall University Law School The Seton Hall Law Zanzibar Winter Program on Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking will offer a 2-credit course on Slavery, Human Trafficking and the Law. The course will provide students with a thorough introduction to the international, regional, and domestic legal rules, principles, policies, and administrative practices relevant to current efforts to end human trafficking. The course also will introduce students to the gender jurisprudence being developed in the international criminal tribunals as it relates to the problem of modern day slavery and human trafficking. Students then will review a broad variety of legal sanctions, investigative techniques, and enforcement strategies used to eliminate trafficking and related crimes, focusing on why some have succeed while others have failed. Finally, students will examine current policies and proposals designed to increase the protection and successful reintegration of victims of human trafficking.

Overview Seton Hall University School of Law is pleased to offer students the first and only American Bar Association-approved winter intersession study abroad program focusing on modern day slavery and human trafficking. The program will operate in Zanzibar, Tanzania for two weeks each winter beginning in the winter of 2007. The 2007 program will run from December 21, 2007 to January 6, 2008.

Setting Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of international and comparative law in a rich, diverse, and exciting academic and cultural environment while exploring the extraordinary history, sights and beaches of Zanzibar. There is no other program of this kind offered by any American law school.
