CIEE Study Center at Charles University - Summer Program: This program exposes students to the rich cultural heritage of Europe, along with Prague and its history. Students learn in a city renowned for its concentration of cultural and academic activities that developed the unmistakable potential of Czech society. The program explores the very diverse outcomes of Czech culture that Prague presents: from a study of its art and architectural roots and exploration of the philosophical base on which it stands, to a discovery of the diverse aspects in which Czech culture augments the cultural heritage of the world.
Curriculum Highlights: The goal of the program is to provide a challenging academic program which gives students the opportunity to learn about subjects related to the region, and to provide the experience of living in the setting in which their studies are focused. Each session includes one weekend excursion as well as day excursions, which links to academic topics as well as a general focus on Czech culture.
Setting Description: The oldest university in Central Europe, Charles University was founded in 1348 by the Czech King Charles IV, and is the premier institution of higher education. Today, it makes use of more than a dozen facilities throughout the city and its environs and has no central campus. Because of its innumerable characteristic steeples, Prague is called the hundred-towered city.

International Business and Marketing in Central Europe : The program has two main goals: to provide a rigorous academic program in International Business and International Marketing in Central Europe with hands-on site visits to businesses, and to build valuable cross-cultural skills by living in an international setting.
Curriculum Highlights: Students earn credit for MGT 325 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS and MKT 318 INTERNATIONAL MARKETING. The academic program earns students 6 semester hours of credit. (*equivalent to 9 quarter hours for those on a term schedule). The program is designed to give every student a thorough theoretical understanding of international business and international marketing through lectures, as well as a practical understanding through applied learning with site visits to businesses.
Setting Description: The program spends one week in Prague, the Czech Republic, one week in Bratislava, Slovakia, and one week in Budapest, Hungary.

The Prague Summer Program in Creative Writing, Photography, and Cultural Studies: Study in the world's premier study-abroad summer arts program with some of the finest writers, scholars and photographers from America and Central Europe. The 2005 theme is "God of Word: Faith and Textuality."
Curriculum Highlights: Two- and four-week creative writing workshops in fiction, poetry, playwriting and creative non-fiction; photography; and Central European culture studies taught by internationally acclaimed writers, scholars and photographers.
Setting Description: Unmarked by the wars and brutal occupations it has suffered, Prague is considered by many to be the most beautiful European city. All classes are conducted at the Charles University Faculty of Arts main building on Jana Palacha square, just a few blocks from Prague's gorgeous Old Town Square.
Program Value: Up to six hours of advanced undergraduate or graduate credit may be earned from Western Michigan University by attending the Prague Summer Program. Scholarship, fellowship, and tuition/fee information available.
