State University of New York (SUNY) The State University of New York (SUNY) currently offers more than 400 overseas study programs in more than 50 countries: in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Programs range from 2-3 week intensive courses to a semester or academic year abroad. Courses are available in more than 100 subjects, ranging alphabetically from aboriginal studies and aerospace engineering to western philosophy and women's studies. While many programs focus on language learning and are conducted in the language of the host country, many others are conducted wholly or partly in English.
Overview The State University of New York overseas study programs are, with some exceptions, open to all SUNY and non-SUNY students, with eligibility ranging from first year to graduate level. For many undergraduates, the best time to study abroad has traditionally been during the junior year; however, well-prepared sophomores, and occasionally freshmen, are eligible for some programs. Study abroad students pay SUNY tuition (in-state or out-of-state, depending upon New York State residency) plus costs, which vary from program to program. Matriculated students at a State University of New York campus register on their home campus for programs offered at any other campus. They are thus able to maintain residency and eligibility for financial aid. SUNY at New Paltz Students can choose from three programs: The Intensive Spanish Language program, Community Health in a Developing Region of Ecuador or The Ecology of Coastal Ecuador. Internships are also available. The intensive Spanish language and Latin American Studies Program provides students with an opportunity to develop their speaking, listening and reading comprehension and writing skills in Spanish in a concentrated format. It also provides them with opportunities to study and experience Latin American culture and civilization.
Overview The Community Health in a Developing Region of Ecuador provides students with an opportunity to learn about current economic and social realities that have impact on the state of health and medical services provided in the hospitals and clinics in Guayaquil and the surrounding rural areas. Includes visits to various types of medical facilities, including alternative medicine, and interaction with health care professionals. The Ecology of Coastal Ecuador Provides students with the opportunity to study the varied ecology of the coastal region of Ecuador. Combines academic study with hands on experience in the analysis of the environment. Program participants will visit important ecological sites in Ecuador. They will also be able to improve their Spanish language skills. Ecuadorian Internship Program Students will have the opportunity to complete an internship in a local business or institution such as a hospital, school, cooperative environmental agency, or other organizations. Internships will take place in Guayaquil and will be supervised by UEES faculty.

Overview Students may elect an intensive Spanish language track or may combine Spanish language instruction with an assortment of courses in various liberal arts and sciences.
