State University of New York College at Brockport (SUNY) The SUNY College at Brockport Summer Session Program at the University of Puerto Rico is a unique program for those interested in Puerto Rico's culture and the Spanish language. This four-week program is designed to increase participants' ability to communicate in all aspects of the Spanish language as well as to provide them with an understanding of Puerto Rican history and cultural patterns.

Overview The program provides students with a hands-on experience of the Spanish Language and Puerto Rican culture, past and present. Students will learn through traditional classroom instruction, weekly field trips, workshops and cultural activities. Students will also have the option of participating in additional field trips and social and cultural events.

Setting The Rio Piedras campus is a place of intense cultural activity, located on a 289-acre area north of San Juan, the capital of the island. The campus is the largest in the university system, not only by population but also by its academic offerings. It is within walking distance of downtown Rio Piedras and easily accessible by public transportation.

Languages Abroad STUDY SPANISH in THE HEART OF PANAMA CITY. Our school is located in Altos de Chases, an upper-middle class residential section that is peaceful and safe. Center for Cross Cultural Study Experience the blend of cultures - African, European and American - that form Cuba. Take classes from native Cuban faculty at the Universidad de La Habana and participate in an array of cultural activities and study trips designed to encourage direct interaction with the Cuban people. Overview CC-CS and the Facultad de Artes y Letras (Liberal Arts College) of the University of Havana offer students a special selection of courses in Spanish language, Cuban Literature, history, government, sociology and the arts. These courses have been specially designed to focus on themes and issues that address the particular needs of American students. Cultural visits are arranged in Havana along with field trips to: Matanzas Province & Varadero Beach; Pinar del R’o; Hemingway s ranch/museum; Museum of the Revolution and more.

Setting Experience the Caribbean walking along the Malecon seafront or buy local art at the open market in old Havana. Ride in a 1930 s era taxi to have a Mojito cocktail at the Bodeguita del Medio, one of Hemingway's favorite hangouts. Tropical, sunny and lively, Havana s jazz and salsa clubs are never far away. CC-CS led study tours are included at no extra cost. Students who speak and understand Spanish at an advanced level may take one or two regular-session classes with Cuban students at the University of Havana. This option is available only to qualified students who are able to pass an advanced-placement exam given upon arrival in Havana.

SIT Study Abroad This programs takes you to Nicaragua's key cultural and historic sites where Spanish colonial powers, the Sandinista revolution, and the Contra War have left their legacy. Throughout the program, lectures and field visits illustrate ways in which social and political movements, including women's movements, are informed by and respond to both domestic and external influences, including US foreign policy.

Overview Intensive Language Study: Spanish; Revolution, Transformation, and Civil Society Seminar: Political History, Social Movements and Civil Society, Economics and Development, Coastal Culture and Identity, The Cuban Experience, Agricultural Community Visit, and Educational Excursions; Field Study Seminar; and Independent Study Project. (16 credits in total)

Setting 7 weeks homestay in Managua. The program includes 3 in-depth field trips. The first, in the rural northern area of Nicaragua, focuses on sustainable agricultural development models and includes a village stay in either Matagalpa or Esteli. The second is an 8-day excursion to Cuba, where you learn about Cuban history and society and have opportunities to meet and discuss issues with Cubans from a wide range of backgrounds. Finally, you travel to Bluefields and Pearl Lagoon on the Caribbean Coast and meet with representatives of Creole and Miskito communities to discuss issues of autonomy and indigenous rights.

ICA Spanish School ICA was founded in 1976, one of the first three immersion schools in Xela.
