Centro Bilingue Amerindia Centro Biling e Amerindia (CBA) is a language school and volunteer coordination organization in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. CBA provides five to six hours of one-on-one language lessons per day in Spanish and Mayan languages.
Overview Centro Bilingue Amerindia teaches language classes geared specifically to students skill levels and learning styles. We also teach interest programs, such as medical spanish and biological spanish. Optional daily activities are organized by the school such as volcano hikes, salsa dance lessons and educational conferences.
Setting The school is located in the highlands of Guatemala, in Quetzaltenango, the largest city in Guatemala. Quetzaltenango is a vibrant city of hidden poverty. The city is rich in culture and art and is the most affluent of Guatemalan cities. However 60% of the population still lives below the poverty line.

Centro Linguistico El Baul Centro Linguistico El Ba l is a center for learning Spanish as a second language, cultural exchange and volunteer opportunities located in the highlands of western Guatemala.CLEB was founded in 1996 by a group of Guatemalan language professionals, active in community, social and environmental issues.
Overview Our total immersion program is 25 hours a week of personalized, one-on-one instruction, depending on skill level and interests. El Nahual Language Center A unique not-for-profit Spanish school that combines volunteering and giving back to the community with Spanish language study and full immersion. Students live with a family, take lessons in the morning and participate in volunteer activities in the afternoon.
Overview We offer five hours of classes, five days each week. Four hours are dedicated to one-on-one language study, in which teachers assess the level and individual needs of their students and tailor lessons accordingly. The last hour is spent on cultural activities and discussions.
Setting Quetzaltenango is Guatemala's second-largest city, located about 4 hours by bus from the capital. The school is situated at the foot of the mountains on the outskirts of the city. North Carolina State University An intensive, experiential, hands-on program designed to teach students how to do ethnographic research in an international setting.
Overview Students learn ethnographic field techniques whily living with Maya families and are placed in separate homes in one of eight communities around Lake Atitlan. Classes focus on research methods, Guatemalan society and culture and toursim.
Setting Volcano-ringed, scenic Lake Atitlan is the site of the program. Surrounding the lake are 13 native, Maya communities.
