Wayne State University, English Language Institute The English Institute at Wayne State University welcomes students and professionals from all over the world. Overview Established in 1974, the year-round ELI program provides both intensive and non-intensive English programs at five levels of proficiency. Setting The ELI is located in Detroit's Cultural Center which is home to some of Michigan's most acclaimed attractions such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, African-American Museum, the International Institute, and the Fox Theater. Saginaw Valley State University The SVSU English Language Program (ELP) is designed for improving academic English proficiency through classes and extracurricular activities. The ELP works within the Office of International Programs and provides excellent support to students both in and outside the classroom.

Overview The ELP has four levels within a skill-based curriculum (Grammar, Writing, Reading, Vocabulary, Listening and Speaking). ELP classes meet Monday through Thursday for 21 hours per week (9 am to 3:30 pm daily). Maximum class size is 15 students. All instructors have MA degrees in linguistics, ESL, English or related field.

Setting SVSU is located on 750 acres in a park-like setting in the Mid-Michigan Tri-City area of Saginaw, Bay City and Midland. The rural campus is just 5 minutes from Saginaw's main shopping area by car. All housing is newly constructed and features kitchenettes in every room.

Value Tuition fees for ELP courses are lower than regular undergraduate courses at SVSU. SVSU does not charge higher tuition for international students. The cost of living (housing, food, other supplies) in the Saginaw area is quite low.
