Institute for Shipboard Education - Semester at Sea Administered by the nonprofit Institute for Shipboard Education, Semester at Sea® is a program that takes approximately 600 students--from colleges and universities across the United States and abroad--around the world each fall, spring and summer semester. The University of Virginia is the program's academic sponsor.
Overview Since 1963, over 45,000 students have studied and traveled to 60 countries around the world during fall and spring semesters through this program. A regional 65-day summer program also takes students to countries in the Pacific Rim, Latin America or Europe and the Mediterranean.
Setting Semester at Sea offers two voyages each year that circumnavigate the earth, and one that is more regional in focus. The fall terms typically begin in Ensenada, Mexico, and end in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, while the winter/spring terms generally begin in Nassau, Bahamas, and end in San Diego, California or Seattle, Washington. Our 65-day regional summer program takes students to countries within the Pacific Rim, Latin America or Europe and the Mediterranean.

College of Notre Dame of MD The English Language Institute is an intensive English program (IEP). Most of our students come from other countries to study English full-time. After ELI, students move on to undergraduate studies, graduate studies, and careers. Although ELI students come from all over the world speaking different languages, together they form a community that makes the ELI experience unique. In each session, there are 20-25 different countries and nearly every continent is represented. The diversity makes English proficiency a necessity and motivates study and language acquisition.
Overview Full-time students will study 5-6 classes per session, which meet a total of 23-24 hours a week. Part-time students may take up to 3 courses. Be aware of visa requirements if you are not a resident of the US.

University of Kentucky - ESL The Intensive English Program at the University of Kentucky features 20 hours of instruction per week in five levels of proficiency. Sessions are approximately 8 weeks long, and students are tested upon arrival.
Overview Our curriculum is designed to improve the English language competency of speakers of other languages for educational, business, social, or other purposes. Instruction is given in listening/speaking, reading, writing, grammar, study skills, and TOEFL preparation, as well as an introduction to U.S. and academic culture.
