Samford University, Cumberland school of Law The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) is a university-based intensive English language program with the primary purpose of helping students develop language skills necessary for academic success. However, many students come to Creighton’s IELI to study English for a variety of other purposes. The IELI offers over 22 hours of class instruction including Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) labs. Co-curricular activities and field trips complement in-class instruction and introduce students to various aspects of American culture.
Overview The IELI currently offers courses at three levels of proficiency: Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced. The core curriculum consists of speaking/listening, reading, and writing classes offered in the mornings. A fourth “Special Topics” class, CALL and the co-curricular activities are in the afternoon. All operate on a 16-week semester scheduling system (Fall and Spring) plus an 8-week Summer Session.
