SIT Study Abroad Experience Ethiopia's diverse and fascinating expressions of spirituality and culture. Students will explore the legacy of the Axumite kingdom and its stelae, or obelisks; Lalibela and its monolithic rock-hewn churches; and the holy city of Harar, a seat of Islamic learning.

Overview 4-credit Language and Culture: Amharic, 6-credit Sacred Traditions and Visual Culture Seminar, 2-credit Field Study Seminar, and 4-credit Independent Study Project. Two-week homestay in Addis Ababa, one week in Harar, one week in Shashamene.

Setting The program base is Addis Ababa, nestled in the foothills of the Entoto Mountains, and the crossroads of contemporary Ethiopia. The program includes educational excursions to Lalibela, Axum, and Gondar, showcasing monuments Ethiopians built in honor of their leaders and beliefs.
