Overview The goal of this program is to offer students an interdisciplinary learning experience that stresses the interconnectedness of human interaction with nature. Specifically, the program offers students a comprehensive and complex view of the many facets of marine ecology, coral reef conservation, and environmental science in a marine setting with an in-depth look at issues ranging from cultural heritage to natural resource management.
Setting The CIEE Study Center in Bonaire is an ideal location for a marine ecology program. The location of the island, off the coast of Venezuela in the southern Caribbean, results in an arid climate with little rainfall resulting in calm waters that are clear of silt and offer exceptional underwater visibility. While small, Bonaire also offers a diverse topography with gentle hills in the north and the flat salt pans in the south.
Value The CIEE fees for 2006-07 include an optional airport meet and greet, tuition, housing, most meals, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, field trips, national park entry fees, scientific equipment, local transportation, pre-departure advising, and insurance. There is an additional fee of $200 on-site for those who need to complete the four open water dives to obtain their scuba certification.

SEA Education Association Focusing on deep-water oceanographic studies, students undertake coursework ashore in oceanography, nautical science and maritime literature and history, followed by a practical component of hands-on marine science and blue-water sailing at sea.
Overview Students will receive a broad understanding of the world's oceans through an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines the sciences, social sciences, humanities and public policy.

Based upon principles of experiential education, the primary academic foci of oceanography, marine biology, nautical science, and leadership are brought from the textbook into real life application.

Setting Dependent upon location. S/Y Ocean Star operates in the Caribbean Basin. S/Y Argo circumnavigates the globe over a two-year period. Voyage duration ranges from 20 to 90 days.

The School for Field Studies Pollution and overharvesting of marine resources, along with unsustainable tourism, may do irreparable damage to the TCI ecosystem. Students work with members of local communities to help find ways in which they can better manage their marine resources while continuing to develop economically.
Overview Snorkel or SCUBA in an underwater paradise, learn marine ecology and techniques for protecting precious marine resources, learn and practice field research skills, interview local fishermen about historic fishing practices and study the British West Indies culture.

Setting The Center for Marine Resource Studies is located just steps from our crystal clear ocean laboratory, overlooking the sea. Within a three mile radius are coral reefs, mangrove islands, sea grass beds, carbonate platform flats and deep water diving. Internet access, SCUBA tanks and weights and boats.

University of Miami The St. Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies, is one of three Caribbean campuses. The Trindiad campus is located about twenty minutes by public transportation from the thriving capital & cultural hub of Port-of-Spain.
Overview There are nearly 7500 students enrolled at UWI in the variety of academic disciplines offered in the academic areas listed below. The exchange with UM is largely directed with the Faculty of Social Sciences; however, exchange students could enroll in other faculties as needed.
