SIT Study Abroad The program begins in the town of Siem Reap with an overview of Khmer history and culture. Moving to Phnom Penh, lectures at Pannasastra University provide background about recent Cambodian politics, international relations, and development. Students directly engage with various sectors of Cambodian civil society.
Overview Students receive firsthand experience of the joint UN and Cambodian War Crimes Tribunal. Through the Documentation Center of Cambodia, students join field teams to meet genocide survivors and former soldiers. ASIA 3000: Reconstruction, Reconciliation, and Civil Society Seminar (6 credits/90 class hours); CAMB 1002: Khmer Language (2 credits/30 class hours). (8 Total Credits)
Setting Educational Excursions: Angkor World Heritage Site, Tonle Sap freshwater lake, Southern Viet Nam, and rural Cambodia. Three weeks in Phnom Penh, and a one-to-two-day rural village. Seven weeks (mid June to late July)

Global Learning Across Borders Highlights include: study of Balinese culture; Indonesian language instruction; homestays and service work in the traditional Indonesian village of Balaban; introduction to Thai culture in Bangkok; trekking among the northern Thai border hill tribe communities; community service activities with the Karen hill tribe; a 10-day Buddhist mediation retreat; excursions to The Killing Fields in Cambodia; service work at Ptea Teuk Dong (PTD), a center for street families on the outskirts of Phnom Penh; and exploration of the legendary temples of Angkor Wat.
Overview With an emphasis on “community immersion” in incredibly diverse Southeast Asian settings—from Bali to Bangkok, Pai to Phnom Penh—participants will experience culture, tradition, religion, and a sense of place with grassroots perspective and intensity.
Setting This semester will begin in Bali, Indonesia, and include visits and stays in the town of Ubud and traditional village of Baraban; then the program will continue in Thailand with stays in Bangkok, Pai, Chiang Mai (the "Rose of the North"), and a trekking/community segment in the hills of the northern border; finally, the program will conclude in Cambodia with stays in Phnom Pehn, Battambang, and an exploration of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
