VFP offers over 50 projects in Kenya each year. Project themes include gardening and agriculture, sustainability, community development, and more!. Kenya was in the top 10 destinations for VFP volunteers in 2011! Most projects in Kenya require an additional fee usually between $300-$400, payable on arrival. Short-term, long term and group opportunities are available!
Volunteers For Peace (VFP) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982, that offers placement in over 2,500 voluntary service projects in more than 80 countries. Each year we provide almost 1,000 volunteers with invaluable opportunities to build cultural understanding and friendship around the world, strengthen their ability to communicate in diverse groups and learn grassroots leadership skills. VFP offers short-term projects and individual service adventures for adults, teens, seniors, families and groups. All projects arise from a grassroots, community based need. Volunteers will be serving with others from 5 or more countries and should be prepared to work about 5 hours a day. You chose the specific project, work and dates that interest you!
Volunteers live together like a family in all projects. Accommodations are simple and may include beds, tents, or mats on the floor. Volunteers will take turns cooking for the group and help with other daily chores. As part of the projects there will be opportunities to explore the local culture and community. Often there are formal and informal discussions among the volunteers that focus on common interests such as the environment, peace, music, education, agriculture and more.
Launch your future with voluntary service. Volunteers will be supported as they develop communication skills, how to work with a diverse group of people, to become more independent, and many other tangible benefits to their service. VFP is always happy to work with students if they would like to apply their service for college credit, to fulfill community service hours, or as an internship.
VFP's placement fee is always $500 ($650 if you are under 18 years old) and must be paid at the time of registration. Your registration covers placement, food, accommodation, leadership, cultural activities, and work materials. Volunteers arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the project. Projects may have an extra fee ranging from $0-$400 depending on the location, length and special service provided. If there is an extra fee it will be listed in the project description and is usually payable to our partner organization upon arrival.
