Throughout the world, there are vast numbers of children who are orphaned or neglected, in need of love, care and affection. These qualities cannot be taught, but they make all the difference in the world. Because of the mushrooming population, there is an un-ending need for compassionate child care in this country.

Teaching in India

Contact:

Despite the fact that English is one of the official languages of India, the standard of conversational English in schools is usually very poor. They know about literature and are better at grammar than most native-speakers, but they find it hard to make themselves understood. Tamil Nadu and Kerala, in the far South of India, where Projects Abroad volunteers are placed, contain hundreds of Hindu and Christian towns and villages with deep and respected traditions stretching back thousand of years, a way of life that is sometimes totally relaxed and sometimes frenetic, and a desire to speak English, the language that puts them in touch with the rest of the world.
