Damascus Summer Encounter

Damascus Summer Encounter participants volunteer with a local Syrian church, nonprofit, school, retirement home, hospital, summer camp or Iraqi refugee service program. They also study Arabic at the Berlitz Center in Damascus. In addition to daily Arabic classes and volunteer assignments, participants have the opportunity to meet with local Syrian community and religious leaders on all matters concerning Syrian life and society including the role of women in Syrian society, the environment, Christian-Muslim dialogue, East-West dialogue, and the plight of Iraqi refugees. On weekends participants will travel to sites of historic and religious significance.
