Unlike traditional immersion programs, we give you a taste of the entire globe as you travel more than 24,000 nautical miles to as many as 12 off-the-beaten-path international destinations or to a fascinating world region for intensive exploration.

Studying the ocean and human interaction with the ocean, students undertake coursework ashore in oceanography, nautical science and maritime literature and history, followed by a practical component of hands-on marine science and blue-water sailing in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. Students are full participants aboard in the operation and navigation of a 134' brigantine with a scientific mission and ongoing student research projects. All programming is accredited and available for any major.

Summer Term is a six-week oceanographic research voyage to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. This voyage focuses on marine wildlife, whale research and whaling history, the great historic fisheries of the region, and the scientific, cultural, and economic issues of resource management and policy.
