ProWorld: Marine Biology in Belize

In conjunction with Marymount University, ProWorld's Marine Biology program awards 6 credits for a two week program in Gales Point, Belize. Students will study Marine and Tropical Biology in both the classroom and in the field, staying at the Manatee Refugee Lodge. In addition, students will have the opportunity to explore the lush tropical beaches and local ecology of Belize through cultural and adventure activities.

In conjunction with Ohio Dominican University, ProWorld's Tropical Biology program runs 10 days in Belize where students will study contemporary political and cultural issues as well as rainforest ecosystems. Students will work on sustainable development projects which may include: environmental conservation; environmental education; or appropriate technology solutions.

This multi-location course provides an introduction to both terrestrial and marine ecosystems in Central America and the Caribbean. The course is taught on-site in Belize, a small country nestled on the southern edge of the Yucatan Peninsula, with Mexico and Guatemala to the north and west and the Caribbean to the east. Course of study may be divided between an inland terrestrial station and a marine site on an offshore caye on the barrier reef in the Caribbean.
