Program Overview

Program Description:
Every semester nearly 200 students from American Universities come to Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) to study Spanish language, culture, and an array of humanities courses offered through the Curso de Estudios Hispánicos (CEH) - a program designed specifically for visiting students. UC3M has dozens of international partners, and is internationally and domestically recognized for excellence in education across multiple disciplines.

Hispanic Studies courses cover a breadth of disciplines including history, art, language study, economics, film, journalism, sociology, and literature. Coursework is supplemented by access to direct-enroll courses at the university itself. Students also have the option to pursue internships or field study if they demonstrate the requisite language skill. Interested students should alert the program coordinator as soon as possible to register the internship course.

A home-stay offers students the best opportunity to join the community, and allows access to people, activities, and experiences normally reserved for local students. The on-site director has extensive knowledge about happenings within Madrid and is a great asset to students. Several excursions are built into the program to provide extra-curricular experience and cultural exposure. The highlight of the excursions is the 4-day trip to Morocco. This trip is a favorite of Marist students, and provides a genuinely unique opportunity to experience Moroccan culture.
Setting Description:
Studying in Madrid offers a wide range of cultural, athletic, and leisure activities. Madrid has a rich historic, artistic, and cultural heritage; it is home to excellent art museums, historic municipalities such as Alcala de Henares, Aranjuez, and El Escorial, and is near the monumental cities of Segovia and Toledo. Madrid also boasts an international airport and a developed public transportation system. Home-stays are all centrally located and are approved and vetted by staff and student reviews.
Cost:
The program cost for AYA 2014-2015 is USD 17,000, and includes tuition, fees, home-stay, meals, health insurance, one domestic excursion, one international excursion, orientation, and on-site director services.
