Students take 20 hours of Chinese a week and participate in a required Chinese language pledge, allowing them to focus on language acquisition. Students take part in a full schedule of excursions, events, lectures and a 9 day Field Study Trip to Sichuan or Yunnan Province designed to enhance their understanding of China and the historical and modern influences that impact its culture and people. Students complete a Capstone Academic Research Project, challenging them to engage with Chinese people from various walks of life and to deepen their understanding of China. Students share an apartment with a Chinese roommate, allowing Alliance students to get to know Chinese students on campus quickly and to engage in language and cultural exchange. Two semesters of prior Chinese language study required.
