The State University of New York (SUNY) currently offers more than 400 overseas study programs in more than 50 countries: in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Programs range from 2-3 week intensive courses to a semester or academic year abroad. Courses are available in more than 100 subjects, ranging alphabetically from aboriginal studies and aerospace engineering to western philosophy and women's studies. While many programs focus on language learning and are conducted in the language of the host country, many others are conducted wholly or partly in English.

Costa Rica Eco-tour

During the week-long eco-tour, participants will begin in San Ramon and Palmares with activities in the Madre Verde Watershed Conservation Reserve. Then on to Fortuna to learn about sustainable community development and local community ecotourism projects. A hike through Arenal National Park will bring the opportunity to see Costa Rica’s most active volcano, and after, on to explore a private Rainforest reserve in Puentes Colgantes. A visit to Turu Ba Ri Tropical Park and an optional outing to pristine Isla Tortuga will conclude this exciting eco-tour. No course credit is offered.

Towson University Environmental Education and Service Learning in the Tropics, Costa Rica

Study in Central America in January 2010 with TU Professor Sarah Haines. This program provides a unique opportunity for students to use nationally recognized environmental education materials from Project Learning Tree (a division of the American Forest Foundation) in a tropical setting. Students will use Project Learning Tree materials to apply ecological concepts to environmental education and the use and management of natural resources in Costa Rica. Students will work side-by-side with local community members to complete environmental action projects. Through hands on experience, participants will develop an awareness and appreciation for the local culture and environment.
