For the first two weeks, classes are held the whole day to teach TCM theories. Offered by the Department of Teaching and Learning, this three-week study abroad program provides educators and graduate students with an opportunity to examine the intercultural perspectives on teaching and learning in China and to explore the teaching of foreign languages, particularly English as a foreign language, across all school levels. The focus for the NYU Shanghai summer program is “teaching and learning in the East and the West.” The program is designed for graduate students, teachers, and curriculum specialists in TESOL, bilingual education, foreign language education, English education, social studies, humanities, and international education.

Exploring Asian Wisdom: Philosophy, Religion, and Culture in China

Discover the Chinese contribution to philosophy and religion in the East Asian tradition with Prof. Suck Choi in January 2010. You will examine Chinese traditional and modern philosophy and religion, focusing on Buddhism, Confucianism, Neo-Confucianism, art history and contemporary industry. This course will offer diverse experiences and resources to expose participants to the Chinese culture. Students will spend time in Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, and Xitang. Participants will explore Chinese traditional spirituality through visits to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, the Great Wall of China, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, the Great Mosque, the Big and Small Wild Goose Pagodas, the Shanghai Museum, and the Jade Buddha Temple, to name a few. You will also tour and meet students at Renmin University in Beijing and Donghua University in Shangai.
