In this program we will read texts and watch films that examine urban spaces and their inhabitants. While living in Buenos Aires, students will compare the real city to the imaginary one. We’ll also explore the vision of the metropolis that emerges in short stories, visual arts, and travel guides, and we’ll study graffiti and youth cultures, urban photography and comic strips. Field trips include historical sites, the Museum of Latin American Art, a trip to Colonia, Uruguay, and a tango show.

Students go to Buenos Aires for the urban experience, the rich cultural life, the inexpensive and excellent food, and the very active night-life. Alternatively called “the city that never sleeps” or “the Paris of Latin America”, Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan and diverse metropolis (ten million inhabitants at least) that merges the European and the Latin American traditions.

We will be exploring much of the city, and visiting the Museum of Latin American Art, Bella Artes and even taking a day trip to Uruguay and much more!
