Motivated high school students engage in challenging cross-cultural experiences for 3 - 5 weeks living as members of host families. Each program provides immersion in the daily culture of a single place and people. Many Experimenters become engaged in the life of another country through community service or travel, some study the language of their new country, while others explore international ecological problems.

Year and Semester: You'll probably attend a single-gender school where you may study up to 13 subjects from a standard curriculum. Ecuadorian society values family and friendship, so your host family will welcome your participation in daily activities. Hanging out with friends and family is also a great way to further perfect your Spanish language skills. You'll meet other AFS Participants at orientations, and possibly take part in an optional trip to the Galapagos Islands at an additional cost.

GlobalQuest

GlobalQuest runs life-changing experiential semester and year-long programs for high school seniors and gap/interim year students for academic credit. Students travel from mountains to cities, to rainforests in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. During their travels students study the Spanish language, regional culture, history and environmental and natural science and ecology. Each group is limited to 12 participants, with three teachers.
