Trek through the dramatic Tiger Leaping Gorge, hiking from guesthouse to guesthouse. Immerse yourself in Chinese culture and language while doing service work and studying in a Tibetan orphanage. Explore Beijing, China’s capital city and imperial jewel while living with a local family. Hike and camp along the awe-inspiring Great Wall. Along the way, learn basic conversational Chinese, a language spoken by over 1/5 of the world’s people. Prepare for the journey of a lifetime.

Lotus Educational Foundation Learn Chinese with Homestay
|
Our high school program is designed for students aged 14 to 18 to learn Chinese while participating in a homestay. Students will study Chinese in quality language programs catered to teenage learners, and at the same time, they will stay with a Chinese family with a resident teenager. These families are specially selected for hosting teenagers. In the families, students will be taken good care of and experience full immersion in the language and culture. Our program features a variety of activities, including cultural activities, volunteer events and weekend excursions provided by Lotus and host families.

School Year Abroad
|
The two-and-a-half credit, intensive Mandarin Chinese course is offered at six levels to accommodate the needs of beginning through advanced language students. There is no language pre-requisite for this program. Beginners in Mandarin may apply.
In addition to the language focus, students take a US college preparatory schedule including English, mathematics, Chinese history and Chinese culture, all taught in English by American faculty.
Electives are offered in wushu, calligraphy and painting.
Outside the classroom, students participate in a variety of activities and spend approximately 50 days traveling throughout China with the school.
College counseling and standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, AP exams) are included in tuition.

Concordia Language Villages Chinese Credit Abroad Program

Improve your Chinese language proficiency, visit historic and cultural sites in China, and experience daily life of the Chinese! Explore the sights and sounds of Beijing and learn about the Changcheng (Great Wall) and the Gugong (Forbidden City). Spend three weeks on the campus of Yunnan University in Kunming attending intensive language courses as well as Chinese painting, calligraphy and kung fu classes. Examine issues related to sustainable development and preservation of culture during excursions to regions inhabited by Tibetan and Naxi peoples. Discover Shanghai, China's largest and most modern city during the final days of the program!
