The Semester in Barcelona is a great opportunity for students with an intermediate-to-advanced level of Spanish to interact with Spanish students and faculty and take courses in a wide array of disciplines.

In addition to their chosen coursework, students will benefit from several cultural site visits in Barcelona and excursions to Madrid and other locations along Catalonia's coast, as well as related immersion activities to build comfort in interacting in Spanish.

The Semester in Alcala: Spanish Language & Culture program is a flexible program that allows students to select from a mix of Spanish language courses and content courses taught in Spanish and English.

This program is most suitable for students who would like to customize their curriculum across a variety of academic tracks such as on business, international relations or Hispanic issues. Field excursions are associated with individual courses and will vary based on the exact courses selected by a student.

The uniqueness of the Bilbao/Getxo International Business and Spanish studies program allows students to develop an international business career, a bilingual career and the opportunity to do internships. Bilbao is a medium sized city with good public transportation and is one of the safest cities in Spain and all of Europe while Getxo is an affluent community popular for its beaches, lively nightlife and diverse cultural activities.

Crossroads of Islam, Judaism and Christianity in Avila, Spain

The Crossroads program is designed for students with at least one full year of college-level Spanish who are looking for a true immersion experience in Spain. The program offers a broad introduction to both Spain's history and the questions of multiculturalism that increasingly occupy the world's center stage. Fall and spring students enroll in the Capstone Seminar (3 hours per week), an intensive Spanish Language and Literature class (6 hours per week), and two elective courses. Students wishing to take a heavier load may enroll in a fifth course. In addition to enrolling in CET's electives, students may enroll directly in courses at the University of Salamanca. During the summer term, students enroll in the Capstone Seminar (6 hours per week), Spanish Language and Literature (10 hours per week), and one elective course (6 hours per week).

University of Salamanca
The Universidad de Salamanca, founded by Alfonso IX of Leon in 1218, is the oldest and most prestigious university in Spain. During the 15th and 16th centuries, it became one of the most advanced learning centers in the world. Many great figures of Spanish Humanism and literature, such as Fray Luis de Leon, Calderón, and San Juan de la Cruz, were educated in its halls. The Universidad de Salamanca continues this tradition of excellence to this day with a highly distinguished faculty doing research in 53 departments.

The university's 30,000 Spanish students have the opportunity to receive degrees in 58 different areas of specialty. In addition, 7000 foreign students from all over the world take language and culture classes or classes with Spaniards. To further their studies, all students have access to the library within their department as well as to the Santa María de los Angeles Library and the General Library. These extraordinary libraries beckon scholars from around the world. For extracurricular activities the University of Salamanca offers the Juan del Enzina Theater, an art gallery, a choir, and an orchestra. On the weekends, many students take advantage of these opportunities in Salamanca.

Menéndez Pelayo International University-Santander
Founded in 1932, the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) offers a complete program of courses and seminars conducted by prestigious specialists from Spanish and foreign universities. This characteristic has given the UIMP a reputation as being one of the most outstanding institutions of higher education in Spain. More than 5,000 students pass through the university´s classrooms throughout the summer. Semester at Sea sails three voyages each year for academic credit. Unlike traditional immersion programs, we give you a taste of the entire globe as you travel more than 24,000 nautical miles to as many as 12 off-the-beaten-path international destinations or to a fascinating world region for intensive exploration. Approximately 75 upper- and lower-level courses are offered in a variety of subject areas.
